Privacy Policy

This policy covers the BetterGrades mobile application, website, and related services. BetterGrades is intended for college and university students and is not directed to children under 13.

• Account information such as your email address, display name, timezone, and referral relationship.
• Your email address and signup time if you previously joined the Android waitlist.
• Course material you choose to upload, including files, extracted text, source references, concepts, and embeddings.
• Generated study content such as flashcards and quizzes, tutor messages, answers, scores, and recommendations.
• Study activity such as progress, XP, streaks, badges, referral rewards, and optional friend or challenge settings.
• Website usage information such as pages viewed, referring source, and browser or device details collected through Google Analytics.
• Technical and security information such as session records, user agent, IP address, and service logs.
• Mobile diagnostics and support information collected through Sentry, such as crash reports, performance data, device and app version details, error context, IP address, and feedback you choose to submit. Sentry session replay is configured to mask text, images, and vectors.
• Notification and offline-storage choices made on your device. The mobile app currently has no third-party advertising or marketing analytics SDK.

We use this information to authenticate you, store and process your course material, generate requested study tools, provide offline access and synchronisation, calculate study progress, operate referrals and optional social features, send requested sign-in, invitation, or other service emails, protect the service, and respond to support requests.

If you previously joined the Android waitlist, we retain your email address and signup time for the waitlist record until you ask us to remove it.

When you allow AI processing in the app, OpenAI receives your course material and Study Coach questions so BetterGrades can generate the quizzes, flashcards, and answers you request. Hosting, storage, email, Google Analytics, Sentry, and other service providers process information only as needed to provide or improve BetterGrades. We use Sentry in the mobile app to monitor crashes and performance, diagnose errors, and handle optional in-app feedback. Its mobile session replay is configured to mask text, images, and vectors; BetterGrades does not intentionally send course content or network request bodies through replay. See the Sentry Privacy Policy for information about Sentry’s processing. We use Google Analytics on the website to understand traffic and improve website content. We do not send your course material or Study Coach questions to Google Analytics. BetterGrades does not sell your personal information or use your course material for advertising.

Service providers help us host, store, email, secure, and operate BetterGrades. This includes Sentry for mobile diagnostics, crash and performance monitoring, and optional feedback. They process information only to provide those services and must protect it appropriately. Friends you accept can see your display name, challenge records, and only the study activity you choose to share in Settings. The app does not show friends your full sign-in email. Referral links include the referral code in the link.

• Notifications are optional. You can decline or disable them in device Settings.
• Study activity sharing and challenge preferences are off by default and can be changed in the app.
• AI processing is off until you approve it. You can turn it off in Settings; future uploads, study-tool generation, and Study Coach questions will wait until you allow it again.
• You can delete individual documents and generated study content where the app provides a delete action.
• You can request access, correction, or privacy help by emailing privacy@bettergrades.app.
• You can ask us to remove your former Android waitlist address by emailing privacy@bettergrades.app.
• You can choose whether to submit optional in-app feedback. Mobile diagnostic reporting may be collected automatically to identify crashes, performance problems, and service errors.

Open BetterGrades Settings and choose Delete account. After you confirm, we delete your account, course material, generated study content, progress, referrals, and offline data. We may retain information required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or dispute-resolution purposes. Security logs and encrypted backups may remain for a limited period under our retention practices. Sentry diagnostic events and feedback are retained only for the period needed to investigate issues, provide support, and protect the service, under our configured retention settings. Deleting an account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription; use the relevant store subscription settings first.

We use access controls, authenticated sessions, encrypted transport, private object storage, and scoped download links to protect your information. Upload only material you have permission to share.

We may update this policy when the service or legal requirements change. We will update the date above and, where appropriate, provide notice in the app. Questions can be sent to privacy@bettergrades.app.
